DTF Transfers are mainly used on garments, and realistically, t-shirts are probably the most common application. But what else will DTF work on? Do these transfers stick to all kinds of materials?
DTF on Cotton & Polyester
DTF Transfers are almost guaranteed to work with Cotton, Polyester, or Cotton/Poly blends.
As a word of caution though, some dyes used in 100% Polyester shirts and garments can bleed through the transfer, so testing is always recommended.
DTF on Nylon & Spandex
Will DTF Transfers work on Nylon or Spandex?
Wellington House has done some testing in-house, applying DTF to nylon and spandex. We have had success with these applications but always recommend testing prior due to the combination of fabrics, weaves, coatings, and dyes used in the textile industry.
DTF on Waterproof / Water Resistant
Will DTF Transfers work on waterproofed items or that have a water resistant coating?
Wellington House has done some limited testing and had success with DTF sticking. But with the wide variety of fabrics and coatings, we always recommend testing first.
DTF as a Background for HTV
Will DTF Transfers work as a background with Heat Transfer Vinyl? In other words, can you press heat transfer vinyl on top of DTF?
NO. We tested this and were never able to successfully get the HTV to stick to the DTF.
DTF applied to other substrates
Are there any other applications for DTF Transfers?
When we started printing DTF and doing testing, we heard that some people were pressing onto cardboard. So we had to try this ourselves. And surprisingly, DTF transfers DOES work on cardboard.
There may be other applications out there that DTF will work with. So get some samples, order extras, and try it out for yourself.
If you do find other applications that DTF Transfers will stick to, please let us know. It could be the next big thing!
