Sometimes it makes sense to order extra transfers, whether to get a better price or to have some on-hand for later.

But how long will DTF Transfers last while sitting on the shelf? Do they have an expiration date?

DTF Transfer Shelf Life & Storage

As a general recommendation, we suggest using your DTF Transfers within 6-12 months. If stored in ideal conditions, your transfers could last longer.

How long a Direct-To-Film Transfer can be stored and still be good to press depends a lot on how it's stored.

Here are some basic recommendations for DTF Transfer storage:

  • Temperature: 50-70° F
  • Humidity: 20-50%
  • Dust: Dust free environment (or as close to dust free as possible)
  • Sunlight: Keep transfers away from direct sunlight or other UV light

Besides the basic guidelines above, here are some other tips for making your DTF Transfer last longer while being stored:

  • Use a 'sealable' container. Often, we use Ziploc style bags, but bins that have a locking or sealed lid will work too. Just something to protect the transfers from dust and moisture.
  • Include silica or other moisture removing (desiccant) packets with your DTF Transfers. This will help reduce or remove any moisture inside the storage container.
  • Keep the transfers flat. It's best not to leave DTF Transfers rolled up or stored at an angle for any length of time.
  • Avoid too much weight on top. Do not store DTF Transfers under heavy objects. Also, avoid large stacks of transfers. Leaving DTF Transfers under lots of weight can cause trouble with the ink or adhesive for the transfers on the bottom of the stack.
  • Use kraft/parchment paper between transfers. If you know that you will be storing your DTF Transfers for over 6 months, it's not a bad idea to stick kraft or parchment paper between each layer. This can help avoid the ink or adhesive from sticking to the transfer below it.
