What Is The Smallest Font Size You Can Print In DTF?

While the DTF printing process can allow some very small text to be printed, there are limitations.

DTF Font & Text Size Limits

The smallest text size we can print will vary, depending on a few factors including:

  • The type of font - Block, Serif, Sans-Serif, Script, etc...
  • The font thickness - Thin, Regular, Bold, etc..
  • Design color - White only text can print smaller and thinner, but any text with color will need to be thicker or larger.

How To Check If My Text Is Large Enough For DTF

The best way to check if your text will big enough for DTF printing is:

  1. Create a 0.02 inch (0.5mm) circle or ellipse
  2. Give it a fill color you can easily see
  3. Drag or move that circle over your letters in your text, especially the thinnest parts
  4. If the circle fits within the letters, your text will print just fine
  5. If the circle overlaps or extends beyond the letters, you need to increase the size or weight.

In the example shown below, the 0.02 inch red circle/ellipse is placed over the text.

The top font is Arial, bottom is Arial Bold. Both are 12pt.

TOP: Because the 0.02" red circle is thicker than the letters, this font (Arial 12pt) is probably not going to print or adhere well to your garment.

BOTTOM: The 0.02" red circle is about the same thickness as the letters, so this font (Arial Bold 12pt) should print and adhere well to your garment.
